Plan A Summer River Rafting Trip

Participate in a family bonding experience this summer that involves battling rapids, floating peacefully through uninterrupted waters, and eating a home-cooked lunch. Carefully preparing for a Colorado river rafting adventure will ensure that your family outing will be a memorable one.

Learn The Basics Or Seek A Guided Tour

Before taking part in a river rafting adventure, you and your loved ones should familiarize yourselves with putting on life jackets, using oars, and handling the unexpected tipping of a raft. The Colorado river features rapids and the rushing waters that are located in some portions of the river could prove to be challenging.

You and your family should be well-equipped to follow directions throughout the rafting trip. Assign one family member as the leader of your group. This person can instruct the others on how to paddle and in which direction the raft should be guided toward. If you and your loved ones aren't brave enough to battle the raging waters on your own, seek a guided tour. Some tours include stopping partway down the river, which will provide ample time to enjoy a meal on dry land or swim in the shallow water that is near the shoreline.

Pack Some Essentials

A rafting adventure could involve being in a raft for several hours. There is a chance that you and the others will get wet during the excursion and everyone will likely be hungry and thirsty at some point. Pack a waterproof picnic basket or cooler with food, beverages, utensils, and disposable dinnerware. Place a couple trash bags, extra clothing, and sunscreen inside of a waterproof bag.

Your lunch could consist of some cold cut sandwiches, potato salad, chips, lemonade, or any other food items that you and your family would typically enjoy on a picnic. Bottled water is another item that you should contemplate bringing along on the outing. When you rent a raft, you may be provided with a tethering system, which will allow you to attach floats, your cooler, or any other items that you are bringing along and would like to keep within reach.

A tethering system will also be a useful aid if you and the others would like to float alone for a little while, but do not want to risk being separated from the group. Avoid bringing along any heavy or sharp items, since they could damage the raft or compromise your and your loved ones' safety.
